History
In the fall of 1924, the Parkersburg Community Chest was organized through the efforts of the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club and Parkersburg Board of Commerce. Each organization supplied three Directors as the original Community Chest Board of Directors. Its first campaign for the following year 1925 approved $63,690.00 to be distributed to 14 agencies.
The Mid-Ohio Valley United Fund, Inc. was organized in 1957 as the successor to the Chest and to incorporate other Agencies into one Annual Campaign for operating funds. Its first campaign was for the year 1958 with $214,000 raised.
Today the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley is celebrating its heritage and its 80th year of caring for this community. In celebration of this milestone, the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley will strive to reach its goal of $730,000 and will continue to stand firmly on the foundation of the original Community Chest.
For 80 years, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, families have received help, guidance and strength. What began as a real neighborhood hope chest, conceived in compassion and filled with generosity, continues to stand the test of time.
